Shale gas upgrading
Energeco completed the cooperation with Kinetics Technology S.p.A. for a feasibility study concerning the upgrading of an off-gas stream from the processing of oil shale.
The study has been aimed at identifying technologies suitable for converting the gas stream, presently used as fuel in boilers, to products having higher commercial value. The gas compression is problematic due the high content of contaminants and dienes in the gas, and the consequent fouling and polymerization tendency in compressor and exchangers. The study has identified non-conventional compression technologies (liquid jet eductors) as the ones that allow the achievement of high compression ratios, while maintaining substantially isothermal conditions, thus greatly reducing operating problems.
